Urheilu ja kulttuuri ovat tärkeä osa Dzikwan toimintaa. Jo 12 vuonna peräkkäin on järjestetty urheilupäivä, jolloin lapset pääsevät koko päiväksi liikkumaan Zimbabwe National Sports Stadiumille. Tuona päivänä lapset pääsevät hetkeksi pois hektisestä Dziwarasekvasta ylläpitämään kuntoaan ja samalla tekemään Dzikwaa tunnetuksi. Tänä vuonna urheilupäivä on tarkoitus järjestää 5.9.
tapahtumaa päätettiin laajentaa, ja lapset pääsivät ensimmäisen kerran kisailemaan oikeiden urheilijoiden stadionille.

Tapahtuma oli alunperin järjestön perustajan, Seppo
Ainamon, idea. Kahdeksan opettajaa Dziwarasekvasta tarttui ideaan ja pisti pystyyn ensimmäisen urheilupäivän. Tapahtuman toivottiin lisäävän reilua yhteishenkeä. Samalla haluttiin edistää lasten terveyttä ja hyvää itsetuntoa sekä tarjota yrityksille mahdollisuus näkyvyyteen osallistumalla hyväntekeväisyyteen. Urheilupäivänä lapsille jaetaan
paljon pieniä palkintoja ja lahjoituksia. Palkinnot ovat tavaroita, joita lapset arjessaan
tarvitsevat, kuten kouluvaatteita ja hygieniatarvikkeita sekä leluja.

Dzikwa Athletics Day
Sports
and culture are important parts of Dzikwa Trust activities. On 5th
September it’s again time for the Annual Athletics Day. Athletics day is a day when Dzikwa kids can get out of hectic Dzivarasekwa for fresh air and fun. Dzikwa Trust also wishes to promote good health through sports. Many of the kids can’t afford to travel much. Some of them have never left Dzivarasekwa. The Athletics Day event takes place at Zimbabwe National Sports Stadium, (B Arena) which is about 8 km from Dzivarasekwa Township.
To be able to organise the event, we need funding. Dzikwa kids are still missing some
sports attire and food (fruits etc.) and refreshments for the day. Also almost 400 (aged 6 to 23) children need to be transported to the venue.
Dzikwa Athletics Day was started in 2002. At first it was held at the fields of Dzivarasekwa local schools. In 2007 the event was expanded and for the first time children were able to do sports outside of Dzivarasekwa.
The original initiative came from Seppo Ainamo, the founder of Dzikwa Trust. The first Athletics Day was organized by 8 teachers from Dzivarasekwa. The purpose of the Day is to increase the spirit of oneness in Dzikwa and increase good sportsmanship and self-esteem of the children. Athletics day is also a chance for companies to advertise themselves through donating to charity. On Athletics Day children get small donations which are things they need in their everyday life like school wear, toiletries and toys.
For
those who can manage to come in person you are most welcome as your presence
brings a smile to the faces of the children!
If
you wish to support 2014 Athletics Day for Dzikwa orphans, make a
